Mar 3/17 Photoshoot

CALL Digital Photography Group Photoshoot March 3, 2017

There were five participants in today’s Photoshoot. We met at 10:00 am near the Zoo check-in booths midway in the tunnel, and proceeded to the upper entrance of the Canadian Wilds. The weather cooperated, with an agreeable temperature of plus 9 deg C, no wind and sunny skies. Some of the animals were rather lethargic, but we got some close-up excitement at the Dall Sheep exhibit. My favourites were the two cougars, who were quite active.

Below are Kim Symon’s excellent contributions, taken at the March 3, 2017 photoshoot.

Looks like a grumpy, somewhat groggy bear coming out of hibernation

Wow Kim, great shot, nicely framed. I glanced at the bear enclosures before stopping at the cougar pen, but did not spot any bears at all.

Very cute picture Kim. Is it a boy or a girl. Does anyone know?

Well done Kim!

I really enjoyed the Photoshoot outing today. Here is another of my favourite pictures from the fish tanks at the entrance to the tropical rain forest exhibit.

Henri, what excellent photos. The “cougars” is a real keeper! The dark background behind the animals adds to the sight line, left to right. As always, tack sharp. Thanks for organizing the field trip.

These are wonderful shots Henri. I like how the light accents the cougars chins from below and how the light accents the strong colours of the various fish from above.

My culling of 128 photos. It was a fun challenging day. Felt great when animals “cooperated” with my directions for posing. ????

All photos processed in Photos on a Mac

Dall Sheep almost charging, while we were barely protected by a flimsy fence. This was a difficult picture to post process. The facial features are in the shadow, and the background above the head is extremely bright. A two layer approach with the second layer severely changed with the levels tool.
