2023-09-10 Calgary Polo Club

This page will be open for submissions from Sept 10 to Oct 1

This CALL Digital Photography field trip is about photographing horses and players in action. Frankie has assured me that there is free access around the polo field and that there are no restrictions on photographers. Since this is like fast moving hockey on horseback some caution is advised. As always our field trips are at your own risk. Also a long zoom lens would be advisable.

On Sept 10 there are 3 game sessions, 10 am, 12 pm and 2 pm. If you can’t make it on Sept 10, there are tournaments on the 17th and 24th. See schedule at the bottom of this page. Note: Times and Dates are subject to change based on management decisions and weather.

The polo club is approximately a 40 minute drive from Calgary. The polo club is located near Okotoks on a rural property. Google Maps shows two turn-offs from highway 2a. The first one just past “Legacy” onto highway 552. The next one is just past Heritage Pointe at Dunbow road – 242 Avenue.

I had a great photo experience at the Calgary Polo Club today. It was very interesting the horse and rider work differently from the jumping at Spruce Meadows. I chose a couple of pictures to show a different partnership. Using my Nikon D500 camera and Tamron 151-604mm Long Lens F5.6-6.3.Setting F13, S 1/800, ISO 100, FL 450. Cropped only.

Thanks, Henri, for suggesting this outing.
