2026-09-15 Autumn Colours

We are in early fall, and the first colours are showing. I expect the colours to intensify in the next two weeks. This is an invitation to all types of photography from landscape to macro as long as it has fall colour in it.

It felt good, the first time holding my camera since my accident. Taken with my 14-16mm zoom lens at 35 mm, f/4, 1/500 sec. Post processed in Photoshop with some distraction removal with AI.

I am having fun working with Photoshop post processing. Found this yellow tree in front of a house in our neighbourhood. Played around with several sliders to enhance the tree colour but did not like the blue sky. Tried masking in Camera Raw to tone down the incredible blue. Here is the progression of edits.

Nice composition, with the subtle yellow variations and the contrasting orange/brown patch of leaves. Like the soft ripples trailing the rocks. Great choice of aperture and ISO to get this effect through an almost 1 sec exposure.

Beautiful composition. Stark contrast. Love the tree just outside the fence and the whole scene silhouetted against a flawless blue sky. The contrast between the green grass and the blue sky makes it a powerful image.

  8. Henri says:

We went to Bowness Park to check out the fall colours. Along the southern edge, along a small creek there are beautiful back-lit scenes to be had. There is a steep escarpment with dark douglas firs with the sun just peeking over the edge. Got this image at f/22 , 1/640 sec, ISO 1000 for a starburst effect. Used Camera Raw sliders to open up the shadows and give it more vibrance and saturation.

If you haven’t been to the WID (Western Irrigation District) just south of the Inglewood Golf course just off of the Deerfoot, you are in for a treat. It is a great gathering place for migrating birds and colourful trees right now. FL 50m, F11, S1/320, Auto WB.

Same WID location and settings as above. Just walk the path.
