I was inspired to convert this to b/w after seeing Henri’s b/w rendering of Baker Park.
This is from my volunteer days of driving around the countryside rescuing birds and bunnies for the Alberta Institute for Wildlife Conservation.
East of Cochrane, January 2021.
ISO 1600 129mm, f/16, 1/3200 sec, -0.67 ev (gloomy day, ridiculous settings)

I really like this image. I would have cropped it like this.

Thanks Henri! I didn’t think to try that, even though at the last minute I decided to crop out the black pickup truck that was on the right side.

These 3 runners were enjoying the brisk air and sunshine on a weekend jog. Although they were in a public space I felt better explaining why I was photographing them and they were good with it.
Only one was born in Canada, one arrived in September 2022, and we all got a laugh when we discussed the use of “Canadian mitts”.

I like this view of Rawson lake and Mt. Sarrail on a crisp day in February

Beautiful. The people are essential to illustrating just how massive mountains are! (Usually I tend to agree with the Saskatchewan farmer who said “The mountains are nice, but they sure do block the view.” But I admit they’re pretty in the winter.)

I liked the solitude of the background shot. Then I decided to overlay the red chairs to give it a more lively feel.
Background shot at f/13, 1/640, iso200

I’m struck by the “in your face” look of this shot! Very dynamic.

While crossing over the walking bridge in Banff, I wanted to take a photo of the water, but the river was mostly covered with snow. I looked directly down from the bridge and found what I would call an interesting colliding of river ice that was both melting, freezing and heaving all at the same time. I brightened the whites slightly, but overall I’m very happy with this image.

This is one of my favourite pictures taken at Nose Hill Park when the sun and the frost came together to make some interesting shapes.

These words were stomped into the snow on the Glenmore Reservoir. The interesting thing for me was how long it stayed and only a new snowfall removed it.

The next day this was added and I am unable to discern what these additions mean in any language.

Apologies for the iPhone 12 shot. This is the time of year I am well and truly sick of winter. (However, I do appreciate the snow, nothing worse than a freezing cold day surrounded by brown.) That’s why I chose this photo for March on my personal calendar.
I’m not a fan of grass, so every year I expand the front yard flower beds. Last year the clover on our front lawn really took off, so my husband didn’t mow for about six weeks because the bees love it. I took this in mid-July, so the tulips are gone and the calendula have taken their place. The leafy plant on the left is a day lily with alternating yellow and orange petals. I have to have annuals for the non-stop colour.

Another iPhone shot of the “blue spruce on a stick” visible in the garden shot above. Portrait mode, which magically blurs the background. Taken during the morning blue hour. I rarely convert to black and white, but it worked with this one. It’s tied for first for the most liked photos on my Instagram.

I can’t make the meeting, so I just want to add that my other most liked post was a needle-felted replica of my daughter’s childhood bear that she ruined by washing when she was about 30. First I learned to needle felt from a kit with dogs. (I added this note because I really hate it when reporters say something like “the second most common reason people go to the doctor is . . .” and they don’t say the first reason.)
