Ok I know that the theme for the next two weeks is Time and Motion but after the comments about Low Key Photography I thought that I would post these. The shots were from my morning walk today a Lake Parker (Florida). The Snowy Egret and White Ibis were feeding together at the pond at the rear of the park. The water was very still and the bright subjects made it look almost black. Some cropping and editing in Photoshop to change the background to black made for a couple of dramatic photos. Don’t know if these qualify as Low Key because of the work on the background.

Love this image! And capturing both amazing birds in one photo. I was fortunate to see a snowy egret in the Leamington area last summer.

Here is a shot of the Snowy Egret by itself. A little more aggressive cropping on this photo.

At the conclusion of Tuesday’s session I mentioned that the FIS Snow Board World Cup is on at COP right now. We went to practice on Wednesday and captured some action. Image with a Fuji XT-5 (RAW) at 194mm focal length. ISO 200/ F 6.4/SS@1/2000.
Next time out will try and track at slower shutter for motion blur.

An unusual sculpture at a small alpine lake in Patagonia at dusk. I removed a couple of the people on the right side.

I’m Snow Rodeo fixated, so great to see these young atheletes from around the world competing at COP. My final image is a Woman Boarder who has landed the jump on the Rail and is heading into the final descent. We were quite close, so my Fuji XT-5 handheld 50-140mm lens was at 90mm.F 7.1/ ISO 800/SS@1/2000 second

I’m so envious – I went there and could not figure out how to get wherever you were, Joe! I even asked people.

Dragon dance, Chinese New Year. My husband and I followed a bunch of people going through a door that said Authorized Personnel Only on the second floor of the Chinese Cultural Centre. It turned out to be the balcony with the stage lighting staff. Best vantage point! After about 30 seconds, everyone got kicked out except me, because I was the only one using a camera to take photos instead of a phone.
I generally use the P setting (I switch to manual if necessary) and I thought 2000 was a high enough ISO with the bright lighting, but my SS was only 1/160. The kids ran around the stage and stopped suddenly three times. I was ready the third time and snapped, and because of the sudden stopping, the dragon’s beard was still moving.

Quite the shot Frankie. Captured only because a “professional” was squeezing the shutter button. Congratulations.

Less than a minute after the previous shot. This person kicked out the “unauthorized personnel” (including my husband) and is now stopping more from coming in.

Made the sacrifice to shoot at the early hour of 6 a.m. The trees in North Glenmore Park have many trees wrapped with lights.
This collage is using the same tree. All with ISO 100, f 9. The exposure times from upper left to bottom right are 1/20, 1/15, 2/5, 1/3.
Using a tripod and the following degrees of motion in the same order. None, a little bit, obvious, and severe. All were cropped and given equal exposure boost in Luminar 4.
Unfortunately the 1/4 moon was showing but it was covered by deciduous trees so it could not be included.

this was taken in the Pioneer Cemetary with my Nikon back in 2014
iso 200 f5.6 1/60
I saw it sitting on the tombstone by the time I got the camera up it was in motion so lucky shot for me.
I desaturated the background to make it stand out more.

After learning high key photography, I wanted to try low key! It was a challenge. This was done in my storage room, tripod, head lamp, camera remote and props. I was trying to do scary, creepy dolls. The cabbage patch doll was done on AV, F5.6, 8 Sec and ISO set at 100. I used my finger to cover most of the light. Post editing was cropping and some light adjustment. I think it is more creepy than scary.

This is my old doll and I think the reflecting eyes gives it a creepier look. This was done in color with the macro setting, F4, 1/25 sec, ISO6400. Post work was cropping, changing to black and white and adjusting the light levels. The doll actually has blond hair and blue eyes so it really changed the image by going to black and white.

I missed the Winter Wildlife challenge so combining winter wild life and Time. This young lady came to my backyard on New Years Day. She was in a shady spot so exposure and brilliance were increased. Shadows and highlights manipulated. Sorry no meta info. This is actually a screen capture from a video taken on my iPhone

Thought you’d like to see her in motion. Very slow motion. No manipulation to image except for cropping. Again no meta info as this is a frame capture from an iPhone video. This is the fence right beside my house. I took her profile shot through my (closed) back door which has a large glass panel.

Walking through the light tunnel downtown at the Chinook Blast. Was surprised at the picture but loved the lines and colors. I have no idea where all the people who were also in the tunnel went. Taken with my 50 – 230 lens at f/18, 15 sec, ISO 250.

Taking a picture in moving crowd, with a handheld camera, poses some challenges but sometimes gives some neat results. Lights in motion at the Chinook Blast. Taken with my 50-230 mm lens at f/9, 1 sec, ISO 250

This was taken by accident, indoors with insufficent lighting at a student performance, with my camera on automatic (of course). After seeing this, I changed the settings and captured images where you could actually see the dancers, but this one stood out as much more interesting. Taken at f4.9, 1/6 sec, ISO-800

Experimentation in drawing with light, using a sign on the side of a building in Shenyang, China and twisting the camera with a slow shutter. Taken at f4.5, 2 secs, ISO 100.

Same technique as above, slow shutter, move the camera to create a sense of motion. Took several trials to make it look smooth and symmetrical while leaving enough of the detail to be able to recognize it as something other than just a swirl of colour. f20, 1/5 sec, ISO 100
