Bella waiting for a belly rub from Santa. If Bella trusted you, you’d also be allowed to rub her belly.

    1/50 sec @f5.0, ISO 2500

    Edited in Lightroom

    • Frankie says:

Bella is adorable! Yes that’s so true. I’m always happy when our guest dogs ask for a belly rub and I can send their owners a photo so they know their dogs feel safe.

Morning walk along the Bow River escarpment in Silver Springs. Experimenting with high ISO. Topaz de-noise – Photoshop AI remove – Photoshop saturation. 35 mm lens severely cropped, f/1.8, 1/8000 sec, ISO 12800.

  5. Karen Sandra McDaniel says:

This picture was taken with my phone at my son’s place on Christmas Day. The tree was 18.5 ft or “4 Grandma’s high”. I did some erasing of strewn wrapping paper with a program on my phone called Clean Up which came with a recent update. Just touch the offending part of the image and move around to select it, then it disappears.

I love coming across a Jack Rabbit in the winter. He was just passing through Riley Park when I spotted him and he stopped to look at me. Settings: FL 400mm, F6.3, S1/320, ISO 250

It is so beautiful outside with all of the hoar frost. I just had to take a drive around my Crescent Heights neighborhood. Settings: FL 24mm, FL9, S1/320, ISO 250

Love the shot with fog shrouding the skyline in the background. I dragged myself out in the evening to 7th St NE overlooking skyline to get a ‘foggy’ skyline and did not come anywhere close this photo.

Getting ready to skate on the Bowness Park lagoon

  10. Frankie says:

People pulling tires while either walking or skiing in Baker Park, too far away to tell. Taken from across the river in Bowness Park after two days of fog.
    ISO 800, 177 mm, f/8, 1/500 s

    • Bill says:

Great shot Frankie. The depth of image with what appears to me to be 5 distinct distances; bush, snow on rise, participants, rime ice covered deciduous and lastly the conifers in the background bring complexity to the viewers eyes.

They are either walking or snowshoeing I’d suggest because of the angle of the lead leg on the lead participant.

      • Frankie says:

Thanks Bill! I appreciate all your comments!
I didn’t know if it was hoar frost or rime ice until I saw a couple of mini tutorials on the local TV news. It was a such a gorgeous few days.

    • Bill says:

This is a great shot of rime ice. It is spectacular because it can and did become much thicker that hoar frost.

  11. Henri says:

Spectacular hoar frost sculptures today! Here is my take, from the Silver Springs Botanical Gardens. Heavily processed in Photoshop B&W adjustment module.

    • Nick says:

It’s got a retro look. Quite effective. Also like the person to the side, almost out of the scene yet adds to the story without taking over the scene

  12. Nick says:

Along Lockland road east of 1A. I got this shot by using a high ISO at 1/80 sec exposure. In retrospect I should have also shot one with low ISO and slow shutter speed as I did have the camera on a tripod (but was in a hurry to get back in my SUV with vehicles zipping by at high speed and fingers ‘frozen’ not responding to brain commands)

    • Henri says:

Really like this image Nick. The imperfect leaning power poles add to the ambience. Real rural scene!

      • nick says:

I am somewhat disappointed. A lot of the images I took are just a little out of focus, particularly the ones I shot when I first got out there in the morning. Wonder if the cold affected the camera or the lens. I kept the gear in the trunk of the SUV and in the uncovered bag as I drove around so must have kept getting colder never having a chance to warm up….or perhaps the fault of the photographer

  13. Nick says:

In the same approximate area, Lockend rd & township 262.
    F/9 1/1000 sec; ISO 200

    • Frankie says:

Very cool shot Nick. Framing, leading lines, implied motion of the wind.

      • nick says:

Thanks. Same issue as the other photo, not tack-sharp. I opted to use the 16-35 f/4 rather the 24-70 f/2.8 to get a wider angle but may have paid the price with sharpness.

        • Frankie says:

Nick both your photos are great. Tack sharp is not necessary to evoke feeling. And what is a photo for anyway? All this ultra sharpening I see online is so overdone. So many landscape images don’t even look like real life. They’re beautiful for sure, but sterile. That’s my rant!

    • Henri says:

      I agree with Frankie.

    • Henri says:

Great shot Della. It shows the value of burst mode. The underside of the wings are colorful. I like that you have 2 birds of the same species in this frame, it adds interest and balance. Well done!

Two from the holidays, the first is our grandniece in one of her quieter moments.

This is from Collingwood Dog Park, with the city skyline visible under the arch.
