We had perfect weather for this field trip. Some son for back lighting and some cloud shadow for even lighting and colour. The flower beds were were kept in perfect conditions by the Silver Springs gardening volunteers.
I went on a different afternoon as I had another appointment on Tuesday. Only brought my 105mm lens. The sun was still quite bright at about 6pm -7pm. There were many bumble bees around.

Beautiful shot Della! Love your depth of field control. The wasp is tack sharp and the foreground flowers as well. Love the composition.
thank you Henri.

Great example of isolating the subject with DOF. The out of focus background is nice and uniform. Love the leading line towards the two open flower heads.
Leaves on a colourful bush. Enhanced specifically for colour in Photoshop with exposure, contrast and gamma correction. Histogram adjusted with levels tool.

Wow, an albino hover fly? Or did you do some major post processing? Love the composition and the desaturation effect.
Mostly a large crop in, removal of some of the green saturation, then sharpened.

Dragonfly posing for me on a leaf. Taken with my 50-230mm lens at f/6.7, 1/320 sec, ISO 250. Wonderful garden, Henri, thank you for organizing the trip.
The flowers were so beautiful. Here is one taken with a bee hunting for pollen. Taken with my 50-230 mm lens ai f/6.7, 1/150 sec, ISO 250.
Loved the sunflower garden. Taken with my 50-230 mm lens at f/6, 1/160 sec, ISO 250
Clematis composition at the labyrinth flowerbed. 1/640 sec, f/8, ISO 1600. I liked the juxtaposition of near, partially shaded flowers and the brightly lit flowers visible through the mesh on the other side of the structure.
Lilies, diagonal composition with a focus on the stamens and the variegated cups. 1/1600 sec, f/8, ISO 1600 taken with my 70-200mm zoom at 200mm. Denoised and distractions removed with Photoshop 2024 AI.
I went to the Gardens this morning and what a cacophony of colour! I didn’t know what to photograph next! I chose this little bumblebee checking out the pollen because of his fuzzy little body! The lilies are amazing right now! Picture is cropped only. I had my 90 mm Macro lens, F8, S 1/1000, ISO 320, Auto WB, CW Metering.
The flowers were not the only colourful things.
Zoomed in at 600 mm and then cropped.
f/4.0, 1/800 sec, ISO 100, spot metering
Captured this bee in flight but I was shooting in Aperture Priority so the shutter was too slow to freeze the wings.
f/4.0, 1/640 sec, ISO 100, 547 mm, spot metering
I really like the blurry wings, it gives a sense of the flow of time on a static image. I would have cropped a bit of the righthand side to take out the distracting dark tendrils, and also to focus more on the bee itself. Great image, well done!

Sorry I couldn’t make the field trip in the morning, but went in the afternoon (very hot!).

Beautiful composition and colour against a dark background. A tighter crop or removal of right hand bottom corner distraction would greatly improve this shot in my opinion.
Yeah, I thought about that, but decided to leave it in to provide a bit of balance to the image by completing the diagonal line and forming a triangle.
ISO 100, f/16, 1/60
Taken with the backlit setting on my Canon – it takes 3 shots and automatically combines them. ISO 100, f/5, 1/800
Zoomed in, cropped in, edited and sharpened.
Wow, love the composition and the depth of field control. Beautiful colour balance.
A creative attempt at editing. 1/500s, f4.0, ISO100. I duplicated the layer in photoshop, then applied a swirl filter to the bottom. I masked out the bee and flower to set them above the swirl. The image was sharpened in Topaz AIPhoto.
I just got to the gardens today. I liked the colour and shape of this pair.
