Really like this composition Della. Elements of three and the desaturation of the background. This really makes the skaters pop. Well done!
Love the shot, Henri. How did you produce it? At first look I thought ‘zoom blur’. But a second look leads me to believe there is some AI magic involved
Nick, this image was taken by Della.
I was able to get away for only a few hours one afternoon and had only one lens with me, so I hit the easy photo shoot spots while in Montreal. This photo is a bit of a different take on the well known exterior staircases. Christmas Stragglers, shot at 38 mm, f/3.2 and shutter speed at 1/2 sec.
This photo is not well viewed in thumbnail version for the reason the main subject is rather lost in the photo. Shooting it it make me feel like a bit of a voyeur, but I could not pass it up and consequently shot it from across the street and also I hurried it. A car parked right in front below it messed me up even more. All to say what could have been an interesting photo is only a so-so photo. At 70 mm, F/5.6, ISO 160 and SP 1/250
I think this photo is very interesting. there is a bit of a mystery to it. The detail of the brick work and the upper glass panel frame the window and this strange object. A bit of perspective cropping could have helped the diverging lines toward the top.
Another speed skating shot. Not as crisp as Della’s wonderful images above (even with some GIMP sharpening), but I really like the composition with the leading line plus the reflection and the shadow of the skater. ISO 800, f/5.6, 1/400. Taken with 300 mm telephoto lens.
What a great action shot Ron, The blue leading line with the red markers is perfect. The spacings of the dots give it real depth. The position of the skater is perfect as well, leaning into the curve with one leg out. The shadow and reflection add 3D dimension as well. Wow!
Penguin portrait from my pre-Christmas visit to the zoo with the grandkids. ISO 1600, f/4, 1/125.
An old photo converted from a slide to B&W. I like the contrast of shadows and light
Stunning Black and White image. Love the strong leading line and the skiers. The shadows and contrast are perfect. Beautiful balance as well. Great image!
Thanks Henry, too bad it lost some sharpness in the conversion process.

An old photo of a gentle giant in Luangwa valley, Zambia. My wife and I worked in Katete, near Luangwa park.
Late afternoon on Chesterman Beach we spied some surfers (in wet suits at 4C water temp) .
Using my Fuji XT-5 tried to get them backlit by the golden suns rays.
ISO 4000/F 9.1/ SS@1/3000. Handheld 55-140mm lens at 140mm.
And early morning on Chesterman Beach. Beautiful light and mist fog adn some wave action.

After the hurricane, many of the flowering shrubs were in bloom and the hummingbirds were loving it. I spent many afternoons watching them flit around. Picture taken in La Paz just prior to Christmas
Picture taken in La Paz Mexico just prior to Christmas.
I loved that I was able to view the hummingbirds eye through the beating of its wing.
