With the end of July approaching and August starting I thought the theme “Mid Summer” might be appropriate for our two week photography challenge. The subject is really wide open from flowers to people enjoying the summer sun. For inspiration click here.
Topping the hill. I chose to stand in the swale of the highway to get a low perspective. The “peloton” had just completed a long gentle uphill before the end stretch to the finish line. 1/800 sec, f/7.1, ISO 160. Enhanced in Photoshop with Levels and Brightness tools.
Here is a different crop with just the riders and their bikes.
A midsummer event: the Tour de Bowness. I wanted to get a sense of speed and tried panning at low shutter speeds. I thought it looked good against the backdrop of the Bow Cycle store. 1/30 sec, f/22, ISO 100.
Here are a couple of my panning shots from the event today. ISO 100, f/20, 1/80. Sharpened in GIMP.
With distracting thick black lines removed.
With the crop suggested by Henri. Definitely a more powerful image. Thanks Henri.
With black line eliminated
I think this focuses more on the interesting rider
ISO 100, f/20, 1/80. Sharpened in GIMP. ISO 100, f/18, 1/80. Sharpened in GIMP.
Mid-summer blossoms and bees. Taken at the Silver Spring Botanical Gardens. Shot with a 35mm prime lens at f/3.2, 1400 sec. ISO 100
That’s amazing! Good job! I spent an hour alternatively on knees and crouched trying, unsuccessfully, to get bee wings flapping. Gave up and went with the wayward white bug instead.
Picture taken at Bowness road race. Like that I was able to catch the background motion as well as the motion of the rider overtaking the rider beside her. Shot with a 70-300 mm lens at f/8, 1/60 sec ISO 250
my attempt at composite from the Bowness ride today
Love the artistry Della. I am amazed at the subject selection accuracy. I love the facial expression. Well done!
Thank you, Henri.
a summer street performer
I was shooting bees for this photo challenge when this little fellow intruded on the party. Shot with Nikon macro 105 lens at ISO 1250; f/3.3; 1/200 sec.
What evokes ‘mid-summer’. Different things to different people , no doubt. I decided to go with the (likely?) obvious. F/20; 1/125 sec.; ISO 400
